Life of Hindu Hermits

Kumbh Mela is a mass Hindu pilgrimage of faith in which Hindus gather to bathe in a sacred and holy river Ganga. Kumbh Mela held in every 12 years at Haridwar, Allahabad, Nashik, Ujjain. Maha Kumbha Mela is an auspicious occasion in Hindu mythology which happens after 144 years. I wanted to be a part of the occasion so went to Allahabad in year 2013…

When I was strolling in Mela sight I came across with lots of hermits who are staying in a tent colony.  Every tent or AKHADA belongs to the different sect of hermits where they worship god in their own way…

Few hermits are quite luxuries. They were moving in decorated horse cart from one place to another place and some of them have weapons also…

I find some of them were torturing their body badly. Some are standing in one leg and some are standing in two legs in a same position from years.  Some were not speaking anything, some are Naga (naked) Sadhus, who don’t believe in wearing any kind of cloths on their body, Some are smoking marijuana and so many else…

Best part of this Mahakumbha was that women hermits were showing their presence in first time. Before that they were not allowed to participate in such occasions…

I get to know so much about them which I will write in detail next time but this time updating some pictures of hermits…

Almora : The City of Fine Wood Craft Houses

Walking in the bazaar of Almora is always a great fun for me. Approximately 1.5 to 2 kms long lane bazaar was once known to have stone slates on the path but now all stone slates have been replaced by new type tiles…

Wonderful old wood carved houses all along the pathway, with shops on the ground floor and houses on the 1st floor...

Unfortunately many of these old houses have been replaced with concrete stuffs but some older houses still exist, to show off the amazing wood craft work...

Rs 500 & Rs 1000 Currency Ban Change Many Life

I was watching television, suddenly news flashed Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address nation at 8 pm. on 8th November 2016. This was of course big news so news channel started their analysis and what they analyzed was Prime Minister could announce war against Pakistan. What ??? War??? How can it possible??? There is no scene of war I murmured into my mouth. Anyway I wait for the 8 pm and listened speech of Prime Minister. When speech starts it was sounds like Man Ki Baat rather than WAR AGAINST PAKISTAAN...

Between his speech, Prime Minister takes a long pause and announced -  today by midnight all 500 and 1000 rupees notes will be ban by the government to control Black money, Fake currency and corruption. Prime Minister assured everybody who has legal money, no need to get scared. Bank will change old currency with new currency...

I was happy indeed coz I too one of them who wants to control in corruption. I slept happily after listen news. Next morning, when I saw how innocent and commoners are suffering by this decision I realize this is not so easy. People who are traveling from one place to another, especially for medical emergency, had no small currency and India is still not that technical that everyone could use technical medium of payments...

In market, I met my uncle he was going to bank. My uncle told me his wife gave him 27 thousand rupees to deposit in bank. With lots of complaints he tells me - she hide this to me. Never tell me anything about this money and now when she scared with waste of money, came to me and says please deposit this money too. With tons of nagging and complains he off to bank...

But left me with few memories and thoughts. My uncle was nagging coz auntie didn’t tell him about her secret money…

My mummy was also one of them who saved money secretly. I was the only person who knew about her secret. She always spent this secret money to my and my brothers studies…

My mummy or auntie is not only women in India who save money secretly for bad time or for an emergency. In every house of India or may be all over world, women save money secretly for emergency time. When Prime Minister announced this decision, many women shared this secret to her family members and all treated her as a criminal but they don’t realize she is not saving money for herself for her own entertainment...

May be decision is good for country and I also hope that decision should be good for the country but many emotional wires has been cut for sure...

Beautiful day Trek in Nainital

As I set on old wooden bench, pair of eyes stairs me from inside the house. I think he is astonished to see me alone in this wilderness. He is still engaged scrutinizing me but I am badly drained that just want to rest for a while so fixed my eyes to see the pristine beauty of Himalaya...
I have been walk almost 14-15 kilometers in 4 hours and now reached here. Though in morning I came for morning walk but instead of walk I went for a small trek to Cheena Peak, near to Nainital, coz warm winter morning was bright beautiful and cozy...
After an hour walking I find myself in a snow View amid of blue painted tea shops, red plastic chairs exciting outside. Where I was the only patron. Huge Himalaya range could be seen from here but didn’t want to see so took a sip of tea and asked to shopkeeper about crowd. He said -no one come in winters but in summer this is a busiest place...
Winter sun is making walk enjoyable so I continued walk to other side of road and saw beautiful lake dazzling with morning sun light. After crossing motor road I turn to the walkway upward. Road covered with jungle both side and mild sun rays reaching through the dense forest. Few women, bare foot, carrying wood and dry grass bundle on head…
While I walked up vast range of Himalaya starts follow me and made trek exotic.  I walked long way along with the Himalaya and reached here where I am sitting now...
Man comes out for quarry- who are you ? Why you come here? I move my eyes from Himalaya and settle on him. He is wearing mustard color sweater and grey pant. No idea about his age. Could be 30...40...50 any. I come for trek - I replied. He seems confused and said - now no one come here for trek. You are the only person whom I am seeing here after so long. He sits in front of me and says - when I saw you first I thought you are a forest officer and come here to inspection...
Then I came to know it’s a forest log hut and the man is worker of forest department. After this conversation I went to see the other side where a small Cheena Baba temple is popping out amid of forest. When I back man shows me British time iron map attached on stone pillar. This map shows the name of Himalaya range. Man says point out to the bench I was sitting - this is too an oldest British time bench but still in a good condition…
He tells me - I works alone nobody comes here. In long holidays I went to my village otherwise I stay here only. He continues - after so long I am talking with someone. I can feel the happiness in his voice and shine in his eyes...
He ask me for tea and went inside I follows him too. Sooty pan were on the earthen hearth and water is boiling in it. He offers me tea which is treat for me…
It’s time to turn but guard tells me another way to get back. When I follow this route I saw a different angle of Naini Lake and Nainital city. I spend some time sit alone and feel like a bird coz city and lake is below me. View is spectacular weather is amazing...
Walk through the jungle and small village I back to city from deep silent to honking noise...

My Childhood Diwali

As I lit Diya (oil lamp) in door entrance my childhood Diwali days drift in my mind. What a lovely and busy days those were !!! We used start cleaning and decorating home many days before Diwali. Making Aipan (door steps) with liquid rice powder and red clay was my desired work in Diwali…

On the main diwali day making of Goddess Laxmi’s motif was one of the most fascinating work and my elder brother had expertise in making goddess face in guava and lemon fruits. In night we lilted diyas and candles together. Whole house echoed with mummy’s voice…

Now everything is available in market. Life is much more comfortable now. Goddess face is available in market. Every type of Aipan stickers are available in market but people become more busy in their own life…

Those days have gone and time has passed only memories remain. Suddenly sound of cracker bring me back into present and I starts lit the diya…
